The project acts as a hub for discovering the treasures of nature as the
foundation for the care and well-being of the body.
The well-being is achieved through water: Salus per aquam. In this
sense the project idea was born from the interweaving of the physical
and natural transition from the soil, passing through the water to get to
the air, with the passage of purification from what is ground to elevate
and lighten your own “soul” up to reach the ethereal. These transitional
phases are those advocated in a spa, where the incoming user is tense
and absorbed from the concerns and worldly affairs, and only through
the path of purification he can get rid of these burdens.
In contrast to the industrial location, the spa is surrounded by green areas
designed specifically, in order to mark the desire of sustainability and
In fact, along the route are several green islands, defined by aggregation
of evergreens and deciduous, united for optimal exposure, but which
differ in color and period of flowering, so you never have completely bare
and monochrome areas during the year.
Further along the basins of the outdoor pools was investigated aromachromotherapy
given by the arrangement of herbs and plants/bushes in
The green areas adjacent to the pools are provided aromatic plants such
as bay leaves, lemongrass, lavender, marjoram, mallow, mint, oregano,
rosemary, sage, savory and thyme, all with different organoleptic
characteristics and flowering type/period.
For the hedge that runs along the entire lot it is used osmanthus,
evergreen plant with flowering in the summer-autumn.
In the green areas on the south side are inserted is evergreen plants
(azalea, cotoneaster, jasmine, juniper and viburnum) and deciduous
(Judas tree, tree wisteria, forsythia, magnolia, willow and several thorns).
The area at the back, mostly north-facing but also east-west, will
be accompanied by tall trees (to allow even the view from the roof
practicable) and mixed evergreens (holly, camellia, rhododendron) and
deciduous (maple trees of different species depending on the heights
and colors of the foliage, linden).
This idea of lightening and purification is translated into two different
languages: distribution and material. In the development of the spa, in
fact, the target of uses of the environments are followed by those with a
more earthly purpose (eg the gym) to those where you are in complete
relaxation (eg the meditation area).
Such a shift is discernible from the outside, thanks to the building
envelope, made of biocomposites materials, which undergoes an
emptying gradually progressive to become fully glazed and lightly.
Inside the project area, the intervention finds its reason with a nonlinear
and faces south, so as to receive and embrace the most possible
sunlight, both in summer and winter.
The bearing structure is made of laminated wood, to emphasize the link
with the land and the elevation to the air, like a tree naturally grows.
The substructure of the façade panels is made of steel, corresponding to
the frames of rear transparent.
